Piedmont Massage donates time, talents to wounded heroes

Free massages provided to members of Team Hope For The Warriors™ after Marine Corps Marathon

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 2010—Students from The Piedmont School of Professional Massage, Dale City, VA, provided free finish line massages to more than 120 members of Team Hope For The Warriors® at the 2010 Marine Corps Marathon held October 31, 2010 in Arlington, VA. A group of six students and two instructors donated their time and talents in the Team’s Charity Village tent. Eleven combat wounded Team members completed the race in addition to the more than 100 community Team runners who ran to raise funds and awareness for Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit that supports wounded U.S. service members, their families and the families of the fallen.

“Hope For The Warriors® is extremely thankful to Piedmont Massage for their support of Team Hope For The Warriors™ and our mission to ensure that no sacrifice is forgotten nor need unmet for these combat heroes,” said Robin Kelleher, President, Hope For The Warriors®.  “Piedmont’s donation of time and talents represents the best of American patriotism and ensures our combat heroes that the community still stands ready to acknowledge and honor their sacrifices.”

Hope For The Warriors® sponsors U.S. service members whose injuries were incurred in the line of duty as they take on new challenges as adaptive athletes. Team members include Marine Cpl. Matt Bradford who suffered the loss of both legs and his vision in Iraq. He was guided on the course by a fellow Marine on a hand cycle and knocked more than an hour off his 2009 finish time.

Other team members on hand cycles included GySgt. Matthew Austin, USMC; Maj. A.J. Tong, USA; CW4 Chris Hedgcorth, USMC (ret); Sgt. Daniel Casara, Army National Guard; Sgt. Sean Debevoise, USMC (ret); Sgt. Stephen Smith, USA; Staff Sgt. John Masters, USA; and Staff Sgt. Stephen Valyou, USA. Two team members completed the race on foot; CPO Sean Brooks, USN, and LCpl. Matthew Tooker, USMC, both suffered upper body gunshot wounds.

More than 100 community Team members also raced in Sunday’s marathon to raise funds and awareness for Hope For The Warriors®. Funds raised by these charity bib runners go towards travel and equipment expenses for the Team’s adaptive athletes, as well as support a range of programs which enhance the quality of life for U.S. service members and their families who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty. For the second year in a row, the VT Group joined Hope For The Warriors® in their mission with sponsorship of the Marine Corps Marathon Team.

Jim and Renate:

My wife and I visited Piedmont Massage for our 33rd wedding anniversary.  We thoroughly enjoyed the sauna prior to our massages.   During our 45 minutes in the Sauna Suite we we able to spend two 15 minute sessions in the sauna and the remainder utilizing shower facilities and relaxing in the soothing atmosphere of the Sauna Suite.  The sauna was a great way to relax prior to our massages.  Your new facility is fantastic.  I was very impressed with the pleasant and relaxed environment which instantly relieves tension.  Both my wife and I decided that a sauna before our massage will be our standard and plan to make a Piedmont massage and sauna a part of our monthly routine.  And of course our massages were fantastic as always!

I highly recommend a visit to Piedmont Massage for a relaxing and rejuvenating massage experience.

Jim,

There really are no words to adequately convey how much I appreciate you. I have to try because it is important to me that you understand what a profound impact you have had on my life!

Prior to coming to Piedmont, I was depressed, stressed out, and my knees were inflamed, back stiff and frustration high! I had been trying for a long, long time to get my weight under control. I had, lost 20 Its over an eight month period and was having problems dealing with the feedback (both positive and negative). I was bored with my fitness program but afraid to push through to the next level for fear of an injury . . . a very familiar place. In the past, right here is where I .would (subconsciously) decide that it was just too hard and abandoned my efforts to lose weight and improve my fitness. Determined not to let that happen again, I decided that a good start would be to de stress. Massage therapy had worked for me in the past however, when I expressed my desire to become more fit and explained what the barriers were (inflamed knees, stiff back, sore muscles, etc.), I was advised to ice my knees after each workout and not to work out so much.

My first session with you was in May 2005, in which I discovered all the wonderful benefits of. massage therapy . . . and more importantly, what a difference the right therapist can make. Nine sessions later, I have lost another 33 lbs for a total of 53, can't remember the last time I iced my knees and I have a brand new respect and appreciation for the massage profession! I had no idea that massage therapy could produce the results that I have enjoyed with you. Each session Is a wonderful experience. You make any problem area that presents itself, magically disappear. You always seem to know just what to do. Jim, you are my HERO

Through weight. watchers, I have been able to make a lifestyle change with regard to my eating habits. Your healing hands have kept me in the gym, relaxed, energetic, and motivated. When I get out of bed each morning, particularly after a challenging workout the day before and nothing hurts, I feel like I have just won the lottery! Not only have I achieved a level of fitness that I thought I would never see again, I continue to reach and achieve,

You are very professional, thorough, focused, and most effective. Thank you. I could not have gotten here without you, I still have a long way to go, but I am confident that I will reach my goals in the gym, on the scale and in other important areas, with your help. You truly make a difference!!!!

Your #1 Fan,
Nita
